McKeesport, PA - CP Industries Holdings Inc. has become the first company in the world to receive US DOT approval for A-Scan Acoustic Emission retesting of cylinders. This new AE retesting capability compliments the company's current Ultrasonic and Volumetric Hydrostatic Expansion testing, and makes CPI the first to be US DOT accredited in all three methods for retesting jumbo tubes.

There are many advantages to acoustic emission retesting. First, the retesting can be done without dismantling the trailer or stationary unit, so the retest takes only a fraction of the time required for typical methods which require disassembly. In addition, the gas that is currently contained in the cylinders can be used in pressurization so there is no risk of contamination or moisture entering the cylinder. Thus, with AE testing, downtime for the unit is greatly reduced.

As a manufacturer, CP Industries has the advantage of more than 100 years of experience with all facets of cylinder production, testing, and retesting. With a full time staff of NDT Level II and Level III certified inspectors, CPI utilizes all of the most advanced nondestructive testing methods, including Acoustic Emission (AE), PC Based Ultrasonic Imaging (UT), Visual Testing (VT), Liquid Dye Penetrant Testing (PT), Magnetic Particle Testing (MT), Leak Testing (LT), and Radiographic Testing (RT). All NDT certifications are in compliance with the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT) recommended practice SNT-TC-1A.
